About Us
A little History...
BHESA was founded and incorporated at the Alberta Corporate Registry on April 6, 2009 under the name "Bangladesh Cultural Association of Edmonton" by Siddique Hussain, Muhammad Nurul Islam, Shafiqur Rahman, Shahid Hassan, Tajul Ali and Moh Laskar. Already in 2010 BHESA reached a size of about 150 members.
BHESA's objectives beside providing member services and building a scoial, cultural, sports, and educational program were defined by
· the promotion and preservation of the history, culture and heritage of Bangladesh,
· the promotion of the Bangla language and its heritage to the next generations of Bangladeshi-Canadians,
· the promotion of multiculturalism and by fostering understanding and friendship with other cultural organizations.
On December 5, 2012 the organization changed its name from "Bangladesh Cultural Association of Edmonton" to "Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta" (BHESA). On March 15, 2018 the organization updated its brand to "Bangladesh Canada Heritage Society of Edmonton" (BCHSE) to better reflect its role within our community. However, after careful consideration the organization decided on December 20, 2019 to revert it's name back to Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA).
Today BHESA is positioning its organization as promoter of Bangladeshi culture and heritage in and around Edmonton as well as in Alberta. Find out more about our current activities at "About Us".
