BHESA Celebrates Youth Festival and Family Day

On Sunday, June 14 the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) has invited the Bangladesh community and anybody interested in meeting the local Bengali people to celebrate the first official Youth Festival of the organization. The family event sets the focus on activities for the young generation.

For this year visitors were able to enjoy a variety of games, sports, kite flying, and other outdoor activities. Though the weather brought along a few slight modifications to the program, everybody there was enjoying the event, and the late afternoon sun prolonged the celebration. The program was attended by BHESA's president Delwar Jahid, adviser Dr. Hafizur Rahman, patron and prominent businessman Mujibur Rahman, Dr. Musfiqur Rahman, former president and dignitary Tajul Ali, and families with children, youth and adolescents.

The event was held at Coronation Park in Edmonton, Alberta, a park located close to the Telus World of Science with several picnic sites, gazebos, an outdoor tennis court, lots of green areas, and a nearby playground for kids.

The Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) offered a variety of traditional Bangladesh foods, like the Yellow Pulao (Rice), Bhuna Gorur Mangsho (Beef Curry), Murgir Jhol (Chicken Curry), Roti (Pita Bread), Salad, and Eggs.

The sportive highlight of the event was the friendly soccer match, where 2 teams led by Ahsan Ullah and Tanvir Hasan competed for the honour. Taking part in the match among others were Vice President Zulfiquer Ahmed, Secretary Mashod Bhuiyan, former Secretary Ahsan Ullah, Joint General Secretary M. Anamur Rahman Miea, Kausar Khondokar, Haider Jan Chowdhury, Robin, Rajiv Chowdhury, Mirza Bashir, Rocky, Sabri, Shafiq, Mohammed Ali, and teenagers Nabid Mirza and Ahnaf Rahman. The game was conducted by Dr. Musfiqur Rahman and finished with a draw (1-1 goals).
