BHESA's Ekushey Heritage Award
Back in 2014 the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) introduced the Ekushey Heritage Award as a means of appreciation for people who stand out exceptionally with great achievements in helping the local community in Edmonton and vicinity area.
Once a year BHESA is recognizing the achievements of people and organizations by awarding a medal of honor for their contributions. The award may be given out multiple times and considered is the work in the different fields education, social work, and community services here in Alberta. Since 2015 the award is now open to all Albertans.
For the Ekushey Heritage Award 2015 BHESA nominated three dedicated volunteers in recognition of their contributions to their fields or significant organizational endeavors. This years' nominated recipients are: Kausar Khondokar (MacEwan University), Ali Noor-e-Alam (Bangla Bazar) and Mohd. Zakaria (Former Executive of BHESA).
Last year BHESA honored the language movement veteran Rajshahi Mohammad Siddique Hossain, Prof. Dr. Nurul Islam, Dr. Hafizur Rahman, Tajul Ali, Shahid Hassan, and Mohammad Ismail. The medal of honors were awarded on February 21, 2014 during a ceremony held at the MacEwan University.

Addendum
On February 21, 2015 the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) added a fourth nominee for the Ekushey Heritage Award 2015. Dr. Moshfiqur Rahman, a Research Associate with the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, will be awarded for Community Service.
