BHESA takes home the championship title at the Mahinur Jahid Memorial Cricket Match

On Saturday, June 14, 2014 the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) took part on the Mahinur Jahid Memorial Cricket Tournament held by the Mahinur Jahid Memorial Foundation (MJMF).

MJMF is a non-proftit organization founded in 2012 in memory of Mahinur Jahid, who died in a car accident in the city of Lloydminster of Alberta at the age of 27. The organization is supporting Bangladeshi and Canadian youth by providing access to education, and organizing cultural and sports activities.

At the tournament two teams gave each other a suspense-packed fight for the Champions Cup, the team of BHESA, and the team of BPCA (The Bangladesh PressClub Centre of Alberta). For the majority of the game Team BPCA was leading the board, but in the last moments of the game Team BHESA was able to turn fortune around and win the game by 1 run. The overall score was 104 in 19 overs for BHESA, and 103 in 20 overs for BPCA.

The event at the St. Joseph High School soccer field was well visited by many families and teenaged children, and lasted from the morning to the afternoon. The organizers supplied the hungry players and the audience with refreshments, and a traditional food of Bangladesh called Chicken Beriani.

One of the highlights was the visit and speech of chief guest MLA Hon. Matt Jeneroux, Member of the Parliament of Alberta. The eminent journalist and president of BHESA Delwar Jahid inaugurated the event. Another highlight was set with the start of the official magazine of the Mahinur Jahid Memorial Foundation (MJMF) called ?UNITE?, which was issued to interested visitors during the event.

The attending cricket players were honored with trophies for first and second place, a medal and a certificate of participation. A third trophy for the man of the match chosen in overall consideration went to the team leader of our Team BHESA Ahsan Ullah.
