Celebration of Int’l Mother Language Day by Bangladesh Canada Heritage Society of Edmonton
Edmonton, March 3, 2019: Bangladesh Canada Heritage Society of Edmonton has celebrated the Int'l Mother Language Day on March 2, 2019 at the Indian Center of Edmonton in a multicultural atmosphere and for the first time with a daylong Winter Fest. The day observed on February 21 around the world. It's a day to celebrate the linguistic and cultural diversity.
Honorable Minister of Labor Christina Gray, MLA was present as the Chief Guest and Honorable MLA Danis Wollward was present as the special guest while Mr. Delwar Jahid, Editor of Diverse Edmonton was present as the Key Speaker.
The function was chaired by Moh Laskar, President of the Bangladesh Canada Heritage Society of Edmonton (BCHSE).
Minister Christina Gray in her speech highly appreciated the initiative of the society for conveying the message of multiculturalism and award certificates to the volunteers for their contribution in the field of various community services.
Mr. Delwar Jahid highlighted on the significance of the day in line with the language movement of 1952 and the independence of Bangladesh, in his keynote speech also emphasized the spirit of language and culture while living abroad, urged for greater unity to keep alive the language and culture in a multicultural society.
In his speech, Mr. Jahid referred the biopic of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her quotes on the role of Canadian initiatives for International Mother Language Day recognition that made the day of international significance since November 17, 1999.
A multi-cultural program was also presented by the artists from the Bangladesh, India and Pakistan displaying the high cultural-diversity of Edmonton.
Prominent expatriate singer Khalida Nasrin Bani, Rocki Singh, Salim Sikder, Sharon Ali, Jivan Bai, Chamili Laskar, Sheaowty Chowdhury, combined songs by Rodoushi Chowdhury, Naveed Mirza and Nafisa Mirza led by Chamili Laskar, they participated in the colorful multinational cultural event and Dance- by Shenin Mehnaz, Rodoushi Chowdhury and Jossi. The music management was maintained by the Heritage Society's Vice President Bikash Talukdar.
Delwar Zahid, editor of Divers Edmonton, distributed the crests among Ekushey Heritage Award recipients (2018). The awardees are Sanjib Chowdhury, Khaled Ashrafi and Shanin Mehnaz.
The Society president Mr. Lashkar spoke on the occasion. Farzana Islam and Shanin Mehnaj was anchored the program and Media Management controlled by Saifur Hasan, Jahirul Isam Shaheen, Faisal Bhuiyan, and Mohammad Ali.
