BHESA nominated three dedicated volunteers for the Ekushey Heritage Award 2016 in recognition of their contributions to their fields or significant organizational endeavors.

This years' nominated recipients are:

· Ms. Morsheda Begum (Cultural Activist)
· Ms. Salma Jahan (Director of the Edmonton Bangla School)

About the Recipients

Mr. Delwar Jahid

Awarded for Human Rights Activities. Mr. Delwar Jahid is advocating human rights since 1980 and is founder of the Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation in Comilla, Bangladesh. He also represented the National Organization of Journalists in Dhaka, Bangladesh in the position as president.

Ms. Morsheda Begum

Awarded for Community Service. Ms. Morsheda Begum is the former Cultural Secretary of the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) and has brought huge contributions to the community, providing work and services and organizing successful cultural and social events.

Ms. Salma Jahan

Awarded for Community Service and Education. Ms. Salma Jahan graduated in Dhaka, Bangladesh and is now teaching Bangla Language at the BCAE Bangla School in Edmonton. She is well known to be involved in socio-cultural activities here in Edmonton.
