President's Message 2017
It is an extraordinary honor and a privilege to begin my second term as the president of BHESA, the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta.
Our outgoing president Delwar Jahid deserves vast gratitude and thanks from all of us, for guiding BHESA with the significant aim to preserve, promote and celebrate our heritage. BHESA focuses especially on the history of Bangladesh and the spirit of our liberation, while serving the local community of Edmonton.
MLA Ms. Dennis Wollard made a statement in recognition of the Bengali New Year that was presented to the Alberta New Democrat Caucus of the parliament in collaboration with the Provincial Assembly. The respected legislators welcomed the message with a huge applause, and Speaker of the House Robert E. Warner expressed his deep interest in the Bengali New Year.
The historic recognition of the Bengali New Year and the efforts of Mr. Jahid through the Bangladesh PressClub Centre of Alberta have put BHESA and its programs and initiatives into the spotlight. Mr. Jahid has been a wonderful role model and his place will be impossible to fill. Luckily he will continue to serve as an advisor to the society for an additional year as the past president. I am in particular grateful that I will be able to rely on his wise counsel during my term as current president and beyond.
I had the privilege of starting my life as a dedicated volunteer for the society, and within BHESA as did several of the board members at the time. Being elected as the president is thus a special honor for me, and I will do my very best to serve BHESA and its members during my term.
The past year has served not only as a preparation for my current presidency, but it also has included my participation in shaping BHESA for the future and to produce unity in our community.
Thanks to our executive committee and our members for your continued support!
Mashod Bhuiyan
President, Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta
